Car accidents are some of the most common injury-causing accidents all over the world, and New South Wales is no different. Here are two of the region’s recent and noteworthy vehicle injury cases:

16-year-old bicyclist hit and killed

A teenage boy was hit by a car 11 February 2020 while crossing a road in Illawarra. Treated at the scene for severe head and chest injuries, he died after being airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick. The driver, a 25-year-old woman, was uninjured in the crash and is cooperating fully with authorities. Police say there was no evidence of a helmet at the scene and that there isn’t any word yet on the specific cause, though police are reviewing the traffic light sequences present that evening for any clues

Highway accident victim was also kidnapped

Anthony Stott, a 43-year-old Brisbane schoolteacher was found dead on the motorway near Cudgera Creek just south of Tweed Heads on Monday 10 February. Detectives have since arrested a middle-aged couple who have been charged with detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage. The case, which authorities are calling “extremely unusual,” still has yet to illuminate the circumstances that led the Brisbane man to his death in New South Wales. The police say he had just returned from Peru, landing in Sydney earlier in the week then at Brisbane Domestic Airport 9 February.

Authorities are still unclear how Stott ended up on the motorway. However, the motorist that hit Stott, a long-haul lorry driver, is said to be extremely shaken and reported that the Brisbane man was “tied to a chair” when the collision occurred. The couple arrested in conjunction with this case were refused bail and are scheduled to appear in court next week.
