Two recent car accidents in NSW result in fatalities

Published 01 May 2020

Car accidents continue to be prevalent across Australia even with social distancing rules in place. Despite a decrease in road traffic reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, two serious accidents recently occurred in NSW that resulted in fatalities.

Woman dies in head-on collision with truck

On the morning of 29 April, a head-on crash between a car and truck resulted in the death of a woman in her 40s, reported 9 News. From initial investigations, police understand that the woman was travelling north on the Princess Highway along the NSW South Coast around 10:30 in the morning. As she was driving her vehicle near Bomaderry, an oncoming tipper truck rounded a bend and her vehicle directly collided with it.

A nurse on her way to work was first on the scene and administered first aid to the victim, but the woman unfortunately passed away. Two other vehicles were involved in the incident and three drivers were taken to the local hospital for mandatory testing. They are all reported to have only received minor injuries from the accident.

The highway remained closed in both directions for the remainder of the morning as investigators mapped the scene to determine exactly what occurred.

Motorbike and ute collide leaving one woman dead

A few hundred kilometres away near Bathurst, Central Western Daily reported on a collision between a motorcycle and ute that occurred the same morning as the previous accident. According to the news provider, police confirmed a woman in her 30s was operating a motorcycle that collided with a car driven by a man in his 50s.

The female driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene as multiple crews and ambulances responded to the crash. The man, reported to be uninjured, was nonetheless taken to the local hospital for testing.

While it's still too early to determine the exact cause of the crash and who was at fault, a crime scene has been established and investigators are working on a crash report.

In the coming weeks, we will likely read more reports on these two accidents, detailing the exact cause of the crash and any claims moving forward.
